Tina Sandoval, Soprano “It’s so beautiful and bell like.” “When you sing, I go somewhere else and take everyone with me.” “You have the voice of an Angel.” Heartfelt comments from people Tina Sandoval has touched with her voice. Tina Sandoval moved to Taos in 2002 from Portland, Oregon. A life-long singer and pianist, Tina Sandoval has a diverse background in music. Her formal training includes degrees in Voice Performance and a Masters in Vocal Arts Education from Northwestern University School of Music and Lewis and Clark College. As a vocal artist she has performed in opera, classical concerts with orchestra, choral ensembles, and piano vocal recitals. Her musical repertoire is not just limited to the classical sphere, she is also an accomplished jazz vocalist and pianist, has written and performed her own contemporary compositions and is an acclaimed recording artist, composer and songwriter. Ms. Sandoval started her career in Chicago singing opera. She has sung in productions of Strauss’s Die Fledermaus as Adele, Mimi in Puccini’s La Boheme, Papagena in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, and Monica in Menotti’s The Medium. She performed as principle soloist with the Chicago Symphony Chorus, Oregon Repertory Singers, and Portland Symphonic Choir. Last spring she was the soprano soloist with the Taos Community Chorus. As a director Ms. Sandoval has had critical acclaim for her choral interpretations of American gospel, modern and jazz works. She was the assistant director of the Aurora Chorus, a dynamic 130 voice women’s choir in Portland. Recently she conducted the Taos Community Chorus in an enthralling series of winter concerts featuring the Messa di Gloria by Puccini and other works. Ms. Sandoval is presently the Director of Music at the First Presbyterian Church of Taos, is on the faculty of UNM Taos as Voice Instructor, an accompanist for NM National Dance Institute (NDI) and teaches private voice at her Taos Institute of Vocal Arts (TIVA) studio. April 27 she will be performing at the Harwood Museum of Art with tenor Mark Jackson in a duet concert benefiting the Harwood Alliance Educational Programs. It is the continuing goal of Ms. Sandoval to provide the Taos community with quality professional performances and instruction focusing on the Vocal Arts. |
