Kay Newnam,
violinist, is a native of Los Alamos. As a graduate of the Curtis
Institute of
Music in Philadelphia, she studied with preeminent teachers Jasha
Brodsky, Ivan
Galamian, and members of the Guarneri and Budapest Quartets, and worked
with
many of the world's greatest conductors. In 1974 she returned to New
Mexico to
become the first concertmaster and violin soloist of the Orchestra of
Santa Fe,
a post she held for 22 years. This included performances throughout the
western
United States, Mexico, the West Indies, Germany and Greece. Currently,
she
performs with the Santa Fe Pro Musica, a musical ensemble which performs on both
modern and period instruments. Ms. Newnam plays a violin by Giovanni
Francesco Celaniatus of Turin, Italy, c.1735.
