Soundscapes is a non-profit, educational and civic organization that offers musical and vocal performances to the larger communities of Taos and Colfax Counties.  Professional and student musicians, especially musicians from Northern New Mexico, are given the opportunity to create diverse programs designed for the enjoyment of a broad range of audiences.  Soundscapes provides free educational performances to children in public schools to ignite an interest in music and the performing arts. This is an important service in Taos and Colfax Counties where the public schools have minimal music programs.  Free performances are also given to the elderly in nursing homes and retirement communities.

Concerts are primarily played by small ensembles for general audiences, including seldom heard musical treasures. All concerts include an informal commentary about the musical selections and are tailored for the specific audience such as children or adults. By combining education in the performing arts with actual performances, Soundscapes adds a new musical dimension to the rich cultural heritage of the communities of northern New Mexico.

Our name, Soundscapes, suggests our mission. The poet Rilke described music as an “audible landscape”. We want to create and share a landscape of sound that will draw our listeners into the realm of music. In this modern world, music is a universal language that speaks to our hearts, our appreciation of beauty, and our humanity. Traditionally and in the present, music unites us all.
